How does a lawn filled with dandelions turn into a good salad or a sea of nettles into a beneficial hair cleanser and how can you use spruce shoots for scenting? This and much more goes into the sisters new book split into three chapters on a natural pantry, bathroom cabinets and cleaning cabinets.
It started as a fun challenge between the sisters where for a year they would replace the importer food with what the nature around them had to offer. Ended up in a book where chemical preparations are replaced with natural tinctures and fills the pantry, cleaning cabinet and bathroom cabinet with wonderful products sourced from the environment around us.
- We want to inspire more people to go out into nature, to take those much-needed micro-breaks and to build their own sustainable pantry. For us, happiness is total when we open our pantry and it is filled to the brim with pickled, fermented and dried herbs, fruits and berries. We feel rich and with the help of these treasures can create good party meals even when the winter darkness is most noticeable, says Malin Persson.
The sisters grew up in the darkest forests in northern Skåne and their free time was often spent with the family out in the woods and fields. The love of nature permeates the beautiful book and its sensual and atmospheric images.
As loved as hated, our yellow friend is the dandelion that "adorns" many lawns in early spring. Instead of struggling to eradicate this amazing weed, we pick it and let it play the main role in both cooking and in our home pharmacy. The main properties of dandelion are that it contains bitter substances and facilitates digestion. We like to use the whole plant, both root and leaf as well as flower. ” - from the book.
